PRESS STATEMENT
In amplifying the voices of women in Nigeria, the Director-General, Maryam Babangida National Centre for Women Development, Honourable Dr Asabe Vilita Bashir has asserted that our elderly women remain an invaluable national asset.
She made this assertion in her goodwill message toady during a momentous occasion of the 1st anniversary of the QUARTER PAST 65 PODCAST in honour of our Centre by Ayamara Foundation at the auditorium.
Speaking at the event, the Director-General noted that the vision behind the Quarter Past 65 is to honour and amplify the voices, wisdom and contributions of our senior citizens which deeply resonates with the Centre’s mandate. In her words, ’they are they living archives of our history, the custodians of culture, and the silent architects of the progress we all enjoy today, she reiterated.’’
Hon Dr. Bashir described the podcast as a commendable platform that not only celebrate the strides but also, bridge the generational divide as it encourages dialogue, mutual respect and learning between the young and the old, reminding us that age is not a limitation but a crown of experience and wisdom.
She, therefore, call on all stakeholders to partner in sustaining and expanding the noble cause while reflecting on the giant strides achieved in one year of existence.
Further, the DG charged that more platforms be created to share and preserve the wisdom of the elders and ensure policies/programs that prioritise the welfare and dignity of the senior citizens which will inspire the younger generation to tap into these valuable lessons for nation building.
Reiterating her commitment and the Centre, Dr Bashir pledged to continue supporting initiatives that promotes inclusion, lifelong contribution and celebration of every woman at every stage of life while she prays that Quarter Past 65 will continue to grow in reach and influence, lighting the way for future generations with the voices of our esteemed elders.
